Lens replacement

A life free of (reading) glasses or contact lenses thanks to lens replacement

The solution for near and far

From age 50, lens replacement is the ideal solution for near and far vision. By replacing your own ocular lens with an advanced implant lens, the vision is corrected once, with lifetime results. Rejection or wear of an implant never occurs. An implant lens lasts a lifetime and even provides better color vision.

How does lens replacement work?

In this treatment, the eye surgeon removes your own ocular lens and replaces it with a state-of-the-art implant lens. The different types of lens implants each have their advantages and disadvantages.

Multifocal implants have already been used for many decades. The latest generation corrects not only near and far, but also middle distance. This is important in daily life because this is the distance at which we use the computer. Additionally, there is no longer any risk of cataract, because your own lens has been replaced by an artificial lens that always remains clear.

Which conditions are treated with lens replacement?

With a lens replacement, we primarily correct the strength in the distance. Myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia can be corrected.

Who is eligible for lens replacement?

In principle, anyone over the age of 50 is eligible. Under age 50, we usually opt for laser eye surgery.  The advantage of lens replacement with multifocal lenses is that after the procedure, not only can you see far but you can also read without glasses.

What can you expect during and after surgery?

Fast, painless procedure

A lens replacement is done under local (drop) anesthetic. Meaning, no needles and no general anesthesia. The procedure takes about 10 minutes and is easy to tolerate. The two eyes are usually operated on one week apart.

Aftercare

After the procedure, you must use drops for a few weeks and take the time to recover. However, you can see with the eye immediately after the procedure. Most people already throw away their glasses the day after the procedure.
