Aftercare after eye surgery

Aftercare after eye surgery

Why is aftercare after eye surgery so important?

Whether you're undergoing laser eye surgery or cataract surgery: the procedure involves your eye, and surgery means it needs time to recover. How fast you recover depends on the type of intervention and also, in part, your personal situation.

When we schedule your procedure, we immediately make an appointment for one or more follow-ups. This is so we can monitor your recovery properly.

With these tips, your eyes recover faster after eye surgery

  • Do not rub your eyes after treatment. You may dab around the eye with a tissue to soothe any possible irritation.
  • Carefully use the prescribed eye drops and follow the instructions we give you shortly after the procedure. The eye drops promote healing of the eye surface and minimize the risk of infection.
  • Always wash your hands thoroughly before applying the eye drops or touching the area around your eye with your fingers.
  • Do not swim or go to the sauna for the first few weeks. Depending on the treatment you received, we advise against these activities for at least 2 to possibly 4 weeks.
  • Do not use make-up for at least 2 weeks after the procedure.
  • Use sunglasses with a good UV filter that protect your eyes from ultraviolet light.
  • Also follow any other instructions that the surgeon gives you depending on your specific procedure.
